Giuliana Soscia among the finalists of the "Note di Donna" Piacenza Jazz
The national competition designed to promote the Italian women musicians/composers jazz
01/02/2010
Eight composers admitted to the final of the fourth edition of the national competition "Note di Donna" - Best female jazz composition, coupled with the manifestation Piacenza Jazz Fest 2010, organized by the cultural association Piacenza Jazz Club, in collaboration with the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Municipality and the Province of Piacenza, in order to discover and enhance the compositional talents of the female universe that revolves around Italian music jazz.
The competition, unique in its kind in Europe, has, in fact, visibility to the many Italian women musicians/composers jazz, which are an important asset, and particularly significant, but still have poor visibility in the national jazz scene, mainly the preserve of male musicians.
A panel of experts has made a first selection in closed session of the sheet music, assuming the final songs of the following composers (here given in alphabetical order): Joy Grifoni from Terni, Loredana Melodia from Bologna, Consuelo Orsingher from Sondrio, Florinda Piticchio from Palermo, Ada Rovatti, resident in New York, but of Italian nationality, and the winner of the first edition of "Note di Donna", Valentina Sebastianelli from Milano, Giuliana Soscia from Roma and Carlotta Vettori from Prato.
The final will take place on March 4th 2010 at “Milestone”, seat of Piacenza Jazz Club, under the programme of Piacenza Jazz Fest. The compositions will be performed on stage by a quartet composed by Stefano Guazzo on tenor and soprano, Gianluca Tagliazucchi on piano, Claudia Natili on bass and Barbara D'Alessio on drums and will be announced in anonymous, not to influence the opinion of the examining board (each piece will be identified only by title and a sign, but not associated with its author).
